About Me

On December 1st 2015 Serena Sullivan left her job to take a year out. In her mid-forties having worked all her life without a career break this was to be her time out of the rat race, her chance to try new things, explore her creativity, her mid-life crisis. All with the generous support of her loving husband J. Hell what's wrong with eating tomato soup for the rest of the year? We can live on one wage let's go vegetarian and grow our own tomatoes! Project 1: The Kitchen Garden.

Serena's a goal setter. Nothing like leaving a stressful job managing a team of molecular scientists having just been through privatization of a hospital laboratory service only to embark on 10 different goals ranging from mastering the piano accordion to entering the World of Wearable Arts (WOW indeed) competition. Most people would be content to watch Jeremy Kyle and re-runs of Father Ted all day.

Serena is driven. Driven mad. She's driven because she's a 45 year survivor of Hodgkin's disease. Not a lot of people know this cos she's done a great job of hiding this away. Yet this fact is at the core of who she is and is what has driven her to where she is today and where she wants to be in a year's time.

But to move forward on this journey Serena first needs to face her demons and deal with the elephant in the room. This involves plastic surgery to reconstruct and stabilize her neck so her head doesn't fall off her shoulders. But you'd never guess by looking at her, apart from the discreet patch covering two fistulas (ooh missus!) on the right side of her neck - fistulas are holes caused by radiation fibrosis (Google it up beeeches!). Anyhow, they look like vampire bites. So a little nip n tuck and the extreme makeover will be complete ready for the big reveal! This is scheduled for January 14th 2016.

This blog is a way for Reenie to empty her head of all kinds of hopes, dreams, fears and record new experiences while Survivin' 2016. Here's to making memories....
